GDL Vulnerability Index
The GDL Vulnerability Index (GVI) is an index to monitor and project socioeconomic vulnerability to climate change. It can be used to compare the socioeconomic aspect of climate change vulnerability of countries worldwide.
Historical GVI data are available for the period 2000—2022. Projections along three Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs 1, 2 and 3) are available up to 2100.
Historical GVI Maps
Our world map allows the visualization of the GDL Vulnerability Index for past years for all countries for which data is available for the period 2000–2020.
Projected GVI Maps
Our world map allows the visualization of the GDL Vulnerability Index according to two Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) simultaneously for the period 2020–2100.
Data table
We provide easy to navigate data tables displaying historical GVI data in a grid-like format of rows and columns. GVI data for countries is available on a yearly basis for the period 2000-2020.
Shared Socioeconomic Pathways
Five Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) have been developed. The SSPs are storylines describing alternative combinations of socioeconomic challenges for mitigation and adaption to climate change.
Compute GVI online
We provide an online form to quickly compute the GVI index for a household. This is done by filling out a form with questions pertaining to each of the indicators GVI accounts for.
Downloads
To download our data tables in Excel or CSV format, a free-of-charge registration with GDL is necessary. Registration takes less than 5 minutes. Sub-samples as well as complete datasets can be downloaded.
